control freak

Illustrated by Kazuhiro Kawakita

それだけに、男の側からすると、“My wife is a control freak! She is just too controlling! I am weak and she is strong. I can’t take it anymore!”(妻はコントロール・フリーク。
“You cannot control what happens to you, but you can control your attitude toward what happens to you.”(あなたは自分の身に起こることをコントロールできないが、起こることに対する自分の態度はコントロールできる)The Sankei Shimbun (October 26 2009)

Genius, Hippie, Control Freak? Jobs Bio Tells All

Steve Jobs expected to die young, wanted to destroy Android, thought musician John Mayer was “out of control,” and believed television was the next big Apple product, according to a new biography released today.

The authorized biography of the late Apple cofounder and chair, written by Walter Isaacson, is available for purchase via download or in bookstores starting today. The reviews that have come in so far are complimentary, saying the book creates a rounded picture of Jobs as a brilliant but at times volatile and controlling leader.

From the New York Times:

Steve Jobs greatly admires its subject. But its most adulatory passages are not about people. Offering a combination of tech criticism and promotional hype, Mr. Isaacson describes the arrival of each new product right down to Mr. Jobs’s theatrical introductions and the advertising campaigns. But if the individual bits of hoopla seem excessive, their cumulative effect is staggering. Here is an encyclopedic survey of all that Mr. Jobs accomplished, replete with the passion and excitement that it deserves.

The review from AP appreciated the book's focus on Jobs' personal side:

The intimate chapters, where Jobs' personal side shines through, with all his faults and craziness, leave a deep impression. There's humor too, especially early on when Isaacson chronicles Jobs' lack of personal hygiene, the barefoot hippie who runs a corporation. And deeply moving are passages about Jobs' resignation as Apple's chief executive and an afternoon he spent with Isaacson listening to music and reminiscing.

Many of the more surprising aspects of the book were leaked in advance, and a revealing interview with Isaacson appeared on 60 Minutes last night. In the interview, Isaacson describes how Jobs, who was adopted, actually met his birth father at a Silicon Valley restaurant without knowing it. And in an unaired section uploaded to the CBS website, we hear from tapes from Isaacson's interviews with Jobs describing his thoughts on rival Bill Gates (just a hint: it's not complimentary) and Mark Zuckerberg. "They are dominating this," he said of Facebook. "I admire Mark Zuckerberg…for not selling out, for wanting to make a company. I admire that a lot."

And if that isn't enough Steve Jobs news for today, Apple is also releasing the 80-minute video tribute shown to staff last week as part of the company emorial. Portfolio.com (October 24 2011)
